Austin, MN The Hormel Institute is a world-renowned cancer research center and is an outreach of the University of Minnesota in operation since 1942. The Hormel Institute, with significant help from the State of Minnesota and the Hormel Foundation, has tripled in size over the past 15 years and has recruited over 100 scientists and staff from all over the world to work in Austin and conduct groundbreaking research. With the arrival of so many new scientists and staff, there was a desperate need for additional housing. Joseph was hired to design and build a 43 unit, 3-story apartment complex conveniently located across the street from the Institute. This project was built in 10 months, through the winter, and opened to existing and new employees of the Hormel Institute on July 1st of 2016. The 3-story apartment complex includes (42) one and two-bedroom units, (1) four-bedroom unit, and one extend-a-stay unit. Science Park Apartments is just the 1st phase of a residential campus, which will house future generations of employees of the Hormel Institute.
